ATEN Targets Enterprise Market with Launch of New IP-Based Cat 5 KVM Switches

ATEN International, leading designer and manufacturer of advanced connectivity solutions, today announced it is expanding further into the enterprise market with the launch of three new KVM Over the NET™ switches, part of the ALTUSEN™ Enterprise KVM Solutions line. These new IP-based Cat 5 KVM products feature remote management functionality and provide secure local and remote access to up to 256 and 512 servers through cascading.

"Network administrators, now more than ever, require reliable and stable IP KVM switches to manage their mission-critical data centers," said Kevin Chen, President of ATEN International. "With ATEN's KVM Over the NET™, an IT staffer simply needs to travel to the nearest computer to diagnose a problem or reboot a critical data center device."

According to Chen, ATEN launched these new KVM Over the NET™products with the enterprise market in mind. "Organizations of all sizes are challenged with administering, supporting and monitoring their network infrastructure," said Chen. "For business to run more efficiently, it is imperative to design an environment that supports remote management. Our new KVM Over the NET™ switches offer enterprises of different scale with unparalleled remote management functionality. They provide remote access to server racks and data centers from anywhere globally via a Web browser - eliminating unnecessary travel and associated costs."

The three new KVM Over the NET™ switches include:

• 32-port IP KVM with support for one local and two remote users (KN2132)
• 16-port IP KVM with support for one local and four remote users (KN4116)
• 32-port IP KVM with support for one local and four remote users (KN4132)

The new IP KVM switches feature out-of-band access to control servers even when the network is down. Also, the KVMs enable remote operators to log in via a Web browser or utilize standalone Windows or Java applications - both of which allow a direct connection to the KVM bypassing the browser.

ATEN's KVM Over the NET™ switches are very useful for enterprises with remote offices. For example, an organization with four remote offices could optimize the KN4132 KVM switch to enable up to four system administrators located at a company's headquarters to remotely access and configure servers at branch offices. The IP KVM switches also feature a Dual NIC (Network Interface Card) design that can be configured for redundant LAN or dual IP operation. If redundant LAN connection is enabled and the primary NIC goes offline, the secondary NIC is automatically and seamlessly engaged.

Added Chen: "Since the IP KVM switches allow for Power Over the NET™ control, administrators can manage server's power functionality remotely. Plus, with out-of-band operation, users can access and control servers - even when the network is down."

Other Highlights of the KVM Over the NET™
• Dual NIC design for redundant LAN operation in case of primary NIC failure
• Mouse DynaSync for optimal mouse synchronization
• Superior video quality of up to 1600 x 1200 at 60 Mhz and 24-bit color depth for remote sessions
• Local console supports both PS/2 and USB keyboards and mice
• Multi-platform support - Windows, Linux, Sun and VT100 based serial devices
• Remote authentication support: RADIUS, LDAP, LDAPS, and Active Directory

About KVM Switches-An Essential Server Management Device

A KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch is an advanced, hardware-based solution that allows centralized access to multiple computers easily and conveniently from a single keyboard, monitor, and mouse. A KVM switch is useful in an extensive range of environments, suitable for SOHO users, small and medium businesses, and large corporations. Fundamentally, a KVM switch allows server rooms and data centers to optimize rack space in the IT environment, reducing costs and the clutter of keyboards, monitors and mice. Additional benefits include savings in energy consumption, server racks, cabinets, and floor space. Since a KVM switch provides access to a number of computers from a central location, IT professionals are no longer running from one server to the next, thereby streamlining workflow and increasing productivity. To meet the ever-developing needs of the globalized economy and the Internet, KVM solutions now have over-IP functionality for remote management capability that better fulfills the demands of corporations who need to manage multiple server rooms worldwide.
