Q 1: Is the CS661 Laptop USB KVM Switch a standard KVM Switch?
A: The CS661 is a breakthrough product, as it allows the user to control two computers at once in a similar way to a KVM switch. The screen of the remote computer is displayed on the local computer so the user can control both the local and remote computer at the same time. However, the CS661 is not a conventional KVM switch because it allows a laptop to replace the traditional keyboard, mouse and monitor of a second computer. Furthermore, unlike a conventional KVM switch, the CS661 also supports file transfers between computers without the need for a costly network.
Q 2: How is the CS661 different from ordinary VNC software or remote desktops?
A: Like a lot of VNC (Virtual Network Computing) software, the CS661 allows access and control of remote computers. Software-based solutions, however, need the client software to be installed on every computer, a common network and IP addressing. The CS661 does not need a network or complicated IP setups to connect two computers. It is a completely Plug & Play solution with a software autorun installation. Unlike software solutions, the CS661 also supports file transfers. The user can therefore transfer large files directly between two computers without having to use network sharing. The CS661 is therefore similar to VNC software in some ways but is intended for slightly different applications. Users should choose the most appropriate product for their needs or refer to other remote control hardware solutions offered by ATEN.
Q 3: Can files only be transferred from the local computer to the remote computer?
A:The CS661 supports two-way file transfers so you can send files from the local computer to the remote computer and vice versa.
Q 4: Does the CS661 allow the local computer to use the remote computer's audio inputs and outputs?
A: The CS661 uses the USB interface to transfer keyboard, mouse and video data. Audio data is not included. As the two computers won't be far apart when the CS661 is used and the CS661 also supports file transfers, you might wish to use the fast file transfer support to copy the remote audio input/output file to the local computer instead.
Q 5: If the two computers have different screen sizes and resolutions, will they have display problems during use?
A: The CS661 allows the remote computer to be displayed in Full Screen or Windowed Mode. The CS661 also offers the Match Remote Screen feature so the remote display is resized to match the local display.
Q 6: Can the USB Peripheral Port on the CS661 be connected to a USB Hub?
A: A USB Hub can be connected to the USB2.0 Peripheral Port on the CS661 to allow the use of multiple USB peripheral devices.

Q 7: Does the USB Peripheral Port on the CS661 allow two computers to share USB peripheral devices?
A: The USB2.0 Peripheral Port on the CS661 is mainly intended for the local computer. If you have a USB storage device attached to this port, we recommend using the CS661's File Transfer feature to transfer files from a remote computer to the USB storage device. If you are using a non-storage USB device (e.g. printer, scanner), we recommend purchasing the ATEN USB Peripheral Switch (US221/US421) if you need to share USB peripherals.
Q 8: The CS661 Laptop USB KVM Switch offers only a USB connector. Does it only transfer keyboard and mouse signals?
A: When the CS661 connects two computers via the USB interface, the connection carries not only keyboard and mouse data but also video data as well. When a remote computer is connected via the CS661, the local console can not only use the keyboard and mouse on the remote computer but also view its video output.
Q 9: Does the CS661 support control from the Remote computer/laptop?
A: If you wish to use the other computer/laptop to control both, simply plug in the CS661 the other way round.
Q 10: Does the CS661 support different language OS for the Local and Remote systems?
A: All the CS661's KVM and file management functions are supported between different language OS. However, text typed by the Local PC only supports the Local OS language and English ASCII. For example, if the Local OS language is English and the Remote OS language is Japanese, all of the CS661's features are supported. However, only English can be keyed by the Local console into the Remote desktop window and GUI.
Q 11: How to type in Asian languages on the Remote PC?
A: Asian language OS (Japanese, Korean, Chinese …) have hotkeys (or combined hotkeys) to switch the typing mode from English to the Asian language. When users want to type in an Asian language on the Remote PC, first, be sure to set Local PC typing language to English, then choose the Asian language typing mode from the toolbar on the Remote PC.
