The easy hack to set up remote working for your staff

With more organisations arranging work-from-home programs for their staff, we are seeing many employees make the shift from the work office to the home office. A sudden change in work systems can be a slippery slope for IT specialists to manoeuvre, when shifting large quantities of staff from secure server systems at work, to working from their devices at home. As a switch solutions provider, Aten has a number of easy-to-implement options for IT professionals to consider, when adjusting the technical workspaces of their business to remote environments .

There are two main factors that IT professionals take into account when migrating their staff to work from home. The biggest concerns for remote working, tend to be around data security and efficiency, and ensuring that home devices aren’t privy to being compromised by hackers and viruses, where confidential company information can be lost. One of the most efficient ways of managing this is to provide remote access to the employees existing PC at work, so that the home computer mirrors the work computer, without having to actually integrate that PC into the system. Once staff are set up to have access to the system, consideration needs to be put into equipping the team with the write devices and setup, in order to ensure that their workflow continues to be as efficient as it would be in the office.

For ease of use, and security, Aten specialises in connectivity and management solutions that are built around accessing and sharing technologies, and provides the most cost effective KVM over IP Switch on the market. Their solutions allow employees to gain remote access to their office PC with the use of an IP server management solution. With secure internet access, having a KVM over IP Switch can be a quick and efficient way to curb any data security concerns as the computers are not directly set up to the server drives, and there is no need for installing external software to access data, which can sometimes be costly when specific professional requirements need to be met. This allows IT managers to continue to maintain the systems through a central work server, and minimises the responsibility put onto employees to ensure the data security measures on their personal PC are up to scratch.

Once the data security and systems access has been established, the IT team needs to look at how they can best equip their employees with a comfortable and adequate home office set up, to ensure that they can be as productive working from home, as they would be in the office. For many organisations, the equipment cost of building a remote working environment is usually significant. With the help of Aten’s switch technology, this process can be extremely simple and cost-effective. For many employees in the office, working off multiple monitors and peripherals is the norm. However, not everyone’s work-from-home setup is as robust, and trying to undertake heavy workloads on one device, such as a laptop, can be frustrating and minimise efficiency. This is especially the case, when that individual is used to working with multiple monitors, or across multiple devices.

Aten’s US3310, a 2-Port USB-C Gen 1 Dock Switch with Power Pass-through, fixes this problem, by allowing an Android Smartphone or tablet and a USB-C laptop to share one HDMI monitor and all connected USB peripherals, using only one set of display, keyboard, and mouse. Users can access all attached devices and switch between them within 2 seconds, allowing the user to save desk space and make their workflow as efficient as possible. As an added benefit, the HDMI connection remains active without disrupting the layout when switching across devices, and the dock also provides superior video quality with an ultra-fast USB 3.2 transfer speed. The 85W USB-C power pass-through provides all devices including the laptop, phone and tablet with simultaneous charges when they are connected to the dock, making for a seamless setup.
