A key player in Singapore’s renewable energy sector operates a monitoring facility housed in a temporary container-based building beside its energy site, where operators monitor renewable energy output and manage daily operations.
The facility required a solution to extend dual-display video and KVM control from source computers to remote workstations. However, the temporary building's limited infrastructure presented deployment challenges, in particular, the lack of additional power outlets at the operator desks, constraining options.
To address these constraints, the customer was considering a flexible IP-based extension solution that could leverage the existing network infrastructure, support dual-display operation, and minimize additional cabling and power requirements without extensive facility modifications.
Requirements
Dual-Display Extension with KVM Control
Extend dual-display computer output to remote operator desks while providing keyboard and mouse control over the existing network infrastructure. The solution had to be flexible in both setup and maintenance.
Work with the Existing IP Infrastructure
Deploy the extension solution using the network infrastructure and cabling already installed at the site. Avoiding major changes to the existing infrastructure was important to keep deployment simple and on schedule.
Breaks Through Power Supply Bottleneck
The existing infrastructure could not provide sufficient power for an extension deployment to a lack of power outlets. An over-IP solution, therefore, became an ideal solution to break through this bottleneck.
