Remote Power Management

Nursing administrators required an intuitive remote power management system for hospital ward equipment. The solution needed to support browser-based access, allowing for seamless setup and real-time monitoring. With a centralized interface, hospital staff could control power distribution efficiently from nursing stations, reducing unnecessary physical movement across wards.

Device Control & Reliability

Critical medical devices, such as heart monitors and bedside monitoring systems, often require remote rebooting to maintain continuous operation. Additionally, in-room appliances like refrigerators and air purifiers needed auto-ping and auto-reboot functionalities to ensure consistent performance, reducing the risk of equipment downtime and maintenance delays. The system had to guarantee high reliability in managing these essential power-dependent devices.

Secure Operation

By integrating the PE4104 with the Smart Bed System™, remote power management was centralized at the nursing station via Telnet. Administrators could efficiently monitor, auto-ping, and auto-reboot either the entire PDU or specific outlets as required. Smart Bed Power management

Positioned on the bedside terminal, the PE4104 allocates two outlets exclusively for medical devices equipped with sensors, ensuring continuous monitoring and uninterrupted functionality. The remaining outlets are strategically designated for patients or visitors, supporting everyday tasks such as device charging or operating air purifiers, enhancing patient convenience and comfort.

Strong Security

Security remains a top priority in healthcare environments. The PE4104 incorporates dual-level password protection, advanced encryption technologies (TLS1.2), and remote authentication via RADIUS. These features ensure secure power management operations, safeguarding sensitive hospital data while maintaining regulatory compliance. The PE4104AJ provides wired security for Smart Beds, preventing unauthorized access and ensuring stable connectivity across the hospital network.

Installation Considerations

The system is centrally managed via a server-based control system in the hospital’s management room, enabling administrators to control bedside devices remotely without the need for physical intervention. The PE4104AJ plays a crucial role in this infrastructure, managing power distribution for refrigerators, service outlets, and Blu-ray players (in pediatric wards) through Telnet-based remote power management.
To ensure error-free deployment and smooth operation, meticulous installation procedures were followed:
  • Routers were positioned in an L-shape so that indicator lights remain visible, even when enclosed.
  • LAN cables were color-coded, and labels were added for each connected device (e.g., “outlet,” “refrigerator,” “Blu-ray player”) to ensure proper power allocation.
  • Proper setup was critical to preventing installation errors and maintaining system reliability, ensuring remote access and control functions operated seamlessly.
