Global collaborative editing guidelines

1.
Q: Why does updated contents not display in real-time on the front end?

A: After you publish updates, it takes 15 minutes to appear on the front-end pages.

Q: Based on the previous question, how can I view the content I just changed immediately?

A: Use the Preview button or use webcms.aten.com/[path] to preview, for example:
     Preview URL: http://webcms.aten.com/global/en/products/kvm/cat-5-kvm-switches/
     Formal URL: http://www.aten.com/global/en/products/kvm/cat-5-kvm-switches/

Q: How long does it take until new products can be found throughout the entire web site?

A: All-new products can be found through the search field throughout the entire web site after one hour you published.

Q: Why am I being checked out when I’m editing pages within “Content ->Web Pages”?

A: When you have accessed a page for editing, and there has not been any activity for an hour, you will be checked out.

Q: If somebody else is already editing a page, can I check in?

A: When another user is editing a page, and you wish to access that page for editing as well, please contact that user to make sure if he has done the editing work. In the same time, please have a good habit to save your editing pages frequently, to avoid data loss in the event when somebody else to check in accidently.

Q: Can I move or delete files in Shared Media?

A: Files saved in Shared Media cannot be moved or deleted.

Q: How do I manage my files in Shared Media?

A: In the parent folders (such as homepage, contact us, etc.), the Regional webmaster can add an upload folder to maintain your own local media files. However, every locale folders in the parent directory must be consistently named by country code. For example: UK-related folders all use “uk,” Japan-related folders use “jp,” etc.

Q: How do I complete the fields of the Live Schedule of Basic Info in the products?

A: The field of the Live Schedule in the tab Basic Info of products can be completed as follows:
   Here, we assume all pages have been approved by web master:

  1. There’s a value in the Start Date field, earlier than today, it will be displayed on the front end.
  2. There’s a value in the Start Date field, later than today, it will NOT be displayed on the front end.
  3. There’s no value in the Start Date field, it means the product has been displayed on the front end.
  4. If there’s just a value in the End Date field, earlier than today, it means this product won’t display in the front end (It could apply to product lifecycle management).

Q: Based on the previous question, how are the values in the fields of the Live Schedule related to search result through the entire web site?

A: Under the situation 2, the product cannot be found throughout the entire web site.
     Under the situation 4, the product can be found throughout the entire web site, and it will be marked as “Discontinue”.

Q: Can we display or remove certain pages automatically?

A: The Start Date and End Date in Publish Attributes of Web Pages can set the specific displaying and hiding time.

Q: Based on the previous question, why can’t I change the Publish Attributes of some pages?

A: If the pages were not added by the Regional webmaster, the Publish Attributes can only be set by the HQ webmaster.

Q: How do I remove webpage?

A:Only HQ Webmaster can delete pages from the webpage admin.

 

 Regional webmaster must remove pages by the following steps.
 (Note: If the page has only one language, use the method II, because there is no other page title to be saved)

 Method I:

 1. Remove page title

 

 2.Click the "Approved and publish" to delete the page.

 

 Method II:

 1. Enter a past date in the End Date field

 

 2. Click on the "Approve and publish" page to hide the page.

Q: Can I edit Header and Footer of web pages by myself?

A: Header and Footer information can only be modified by the HQ webmaster. If you wish to change those items, please contact HQ webmaster.

Q: Why can’t I find the product-adding functionality in Products -> Basic Info -> Products? How can I add new product information?

A: Here is the rules about how to add a model number for a new product:

  1. The HQ webmaster add a new model numbers by a centralized way.
  2. Subsequently, Regional webmasters may edit the rest of fields besides the fiends in the Global Data tab.
  3. Regional webmasters cannot modify any data fields in the Global data tab.

Q: Why can’t a Regional webmaster modify certain parameters of Web Pages, such as the "Global Settings" tab, "Page Attributes", and "Publish Attributes"?

A: The web pages within Web Pages dialog box are divided into 2 different kinds of situations based on the page creation model:

  1. If the page was created by the HQ webmaster centrally, then the Regional webmaster cannot edit those settings.
  2. If the page was created by a Regional webmaster, then they can define all parameters within the "Global Settings" tab, Page Attributes ", and "Publish Attributes ".

Q: Why can’t I open a web page in my IE browser?

A: This site only supports IE10 or later. If you are running an older version, please upgrade your browser.

Q: Why can’t I open a web page in my 360 browser?

A: Due to the 360 browser is developed by using IE core, so you have to upgrade your IE to IE10 or later in order to open pages successfully.

Q: If you want to upload a large volume of files, is there a faster way?

A: You can use FTP to upload all of your files to the S3 bucket. If you don’t have S3 user rights, please contact the HQ webmaster to create one.

Q: Once I have uploaded all my pages through FTP, what is the path on the front-end page? And why can't I see the page immediately?

A:
1. You could preview the page by URL:
http://webcms.aten.com/ext_data/[language folder]/[FTP folder name]/......
Or
in Production site by URL:  http://www.aten.com/ext_data/global_en/[language folder]/[FTP folder name]/......

 

2. After updating the path and URL on the CMS, it would sync to the front-end page once per hour periodically.
